Chihuahua is a dog breed that we have a love-hate relationship with. We absolutely adore its cuteness as well as its energy level, but we simply hate their loud barks. We all know that the Chihuahua can bark pretty loud, and that is pretty antagonizing, even with bark control devices like the bark collars. So, I can’t even imagine having a litter of the Chihuahua at home. Imagine a pack of Chihuahua barking nonstop. I figured that the noise level is just enough to drown noises from a jet engine!
So, having said all these, it is a good time to investigate the number of times that a Chihuahua could give birth. This will be a concern, especially for owners who intend to breed their Chihuahua.
How Many Times Can A Chihuahua Give Birth
Technically, the number of times that the dog can give birth is determined by the number of times that they are in heat. For the case of the Chihuahua, they are usually in heat from ages 1 to about 8. And they can be in heat for up to two times a year.
So, theoretically, it is possible that the Chihuahua can give birth for up to 16 times. And in each pregnancy, the Chihuahua can give birth to up to 10 Chihuahua pups in one litter, though the common amount of Chihuahua pups is about 2 to 4, depending on the size of the Chihuahua. Teacup Chihuahua obviously could only give birth from 1 to 3 puppies per litter as they are pretty small in size.
Indeed, Chihuahuas can give birth to multiple litters throughout their lifetime, but it is important to consider the health and wellbeing of the mother before breeding her repeatedly. Breeding a female Chihuahua too often can lead to health problems such as uterine infections, mastitis, and other reproductive issues.
As a general rule, it is recommended that Chihuahuas only be bred once a year, or every other year, to give their bodies time to recover and stay healthy. Additionally, it is important to have a veterinarian monitor the health of the mother and puppies throughout the breeding and birthing process to ensure that everything goes smoothly.
But then, the ability to give birth and the odds of surviving the pregnancy are different matters that you should consider.
It Is Ethical To Force Breed Chihuahuas?
This is the worst question ever to ask. It is not advisable for you to force breed any dog, let alone Chihuahuas. By forcing them to breed whenever they are in heat, you are not allowing the dog to rest and regain back its health after a pregnancy.
While we know that Chihuahuas one sale can cost from 500 dollars to up to 1000 dollars per puppy, depending on her color, it is still not right for you to treat the dogs like a money-making machine.
Hence, we always advocate you choose the breeders carefully. If the parent Chihuahua appears to be weak and in a bad condition, then you should not purchase the puppy. Instead, report the puppy mill to the relevant authorities to keep these people in check.
